All chains are made the same way, a series of links, held together by side plates. the link consists of two rollers, joined by a plate on each side. The links are then joined together into a chain by using a side plate on each side of the links, one side plate attaches to a roller in one link, and the other holes attach to one roller in the next link, and so on......the side plates are rivited on with posts that pass thru the roller of each link, thru the side plate, and are then mushroomed. To remove the chain, grind the mushroom head off of one of the rivits, and use the punch to drive the pin out the other side.

to install the master link, which is made of three parts, a back plate, with two pins attached, a cover plate, and a clip. slide the back plate thru the rollers of the two end links (easiest to do if the ends are on the rear sprocket), place the cover plate on the outside of the chain, over the pins, and attach the clip, with the closed end facing the direction of travel, done.

I have a tool to remove the old chain. I did it on my cbr. The chain I bought for that came with both the clip and press fit master links. I put on the clip, and went to honda (a big no no) to get the rivet link put on. $20 for less than 5 min of work. what a rip off right? So basically, what the deal is here, is that i bought a new chain and sprocket kit, gonna swap that stuff out, and ordered a 525 clip style master link to put on the new chain till I can go to someone's house, or to somewhere cheaper than honda, to get it riveted. Thanx guru, I'll most likely give you a shout, probably this weekend
